Ling Zhi, also known as Reishi or shiny polypore (Ganoderma lucidum), is a tree fungus that traditionally grows on hardwoods. For thousands of years, it has been revered as one of the most important mushrooms in human history. More than 2,500 years ago, it was regarded in ancient China as a symbol of health, longevity and vitality - so much so that the Chinese emperor Shih Huang Ti called it the "mushroom of eternal life".
